The 24 female students kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State have been freed, according to security sources cited by TheCable on Tuesday.
Details of the rescue operation are still emerging.
The abduction, which had drawn widespread outrage across Nigeria, renewed fears about student safety in the northern region—an area that has suffered repeated attacks on schools in recent years.
Edutimesafrica earlier reported that on November 17, armed terrorists stormed the Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School at about 5:52 am. During the attack, the gunmen shot sporadically, killing a staff member and injuring a school guard before abducting several students.
The attack occurred as students were preparing for their morning routines, leaving the school community in shock and fear.
President Tinubu welcomes released schoolgirls from Kebbi and urges security forces to intensify efforts to free those who remain captive.
He said, “I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must put as a matter of urgency more boots on the ground in the vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this.”
More updates are expected as authorities release additional information about the rescue.
