The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has directed all students to proceed on a three-week mid-semester break with immediate effect.
This decision follows a protest by students on Tuesday over a newly introduced transportation system within the community. The directive was approved by the University Senate and communicated in an official statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju.
According to the statement, the protest escalated into acts described as unruly, including the obstruction of major access roads and the harassment of road users within and around the university परिसर.
The University management noted that, despite efforts to engage with the protesting students and restore calm, the situation posed significant concerns regarding the safety and well-being of members of the university community and the general public.
Consequently, students have been instructed to vacate their halls of residence immediately.
The management stated that the mid-semester break is intended to restore order and provide an opportunity for meaningful engagement with relevant stakeholders toward addressing the issues raised.
Parents and guardians have been advised to take note of the development and make appropriate arrangements for their wards, while students are urged to remain law-abiding and utilize the period responsibly.
