The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, describing him as a patriot whose commitment to integrity, excellence and national service left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s education sector.
In a statement, JAMB said it received with profound sadness the news of the passing of Prof. Ambali, who also served as Chairman of the Board’s Virtue Vanguard Group, one of its key examination monitoring and quality assurance teams.
The Board noted that Ambali provided exemplary leadership during his tenure, helping to strengthen the credibility, transparency and integrity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination through his dedication to ethical standards and quality assurance.
According to JAMB, the late scholar’s contributions extended beyond routine oversight, describing him as a voice of reason, mentor and steadfast advocate of the values that continue to define the Board’s examination processes.
“The positive transformation witnessed in the conduct of the UTME over the years bears testimony to the collective efforts of committed stakeholders such as Professor Ambali, whose passion for educational advancement remained unwavering until his last days,” the statement said.
JAMB also paid tribute to Ambali’s broader contributions to national development, highlighting his service as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, accomplished academic and respected statesman whose counsel was consistently guided by the national interest.
The Board described his death as a painful loss to the education community and the nation, while noting that his legacy of integrity, diligence, humility and selfless service would continue to inspire future generations.
JAMB extended its condolences to the family of the late professor, the Government and people of Kwara State, the management and staff of the University of Ilorin, and the wider academic community.
It also prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and for strength and comfort for all those affected by the loss.
