The Lagos State Government has approved the 2026/2027 Harmonised Academic Calendar for public and private primary and secondary schools, with the new academic session scheduled to commence on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, announced the approval on Thursday, saying the calendar was developed after extensive consultations with education stakeholders coordinated by the Office of Education Quality Assurance.
According to the approved schedule, the first term will run from September 14 to December 21, 2026, with a mid-term break from November 2 to November 6.
The second term is scheduled to begin on January 11, 2027, and end on April 19, 2027, while the third term will run from May 3 to July 30, 2027. Schools will proceed on the long vacation from August 2, 2027, bringing the total number of school days for the session to 182.
The government said schools are expected to observe mandatory Open Days each term, while individual schools may choose any two days between September 7 and September 11, 2026, for staff professional development.
The calendar also accommodates public holidays, including Independence Day, Eid-el-Fitr, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Eid-el-Kabir, Democracy Day, and Workers’ Day, alongside international observances such as International Literacy Day and the International Day of Education.
