The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has dismissed circulating reports claiming that the Federal Government suspended students’ upkeep allowance payments under the student loan scheme, describing the publications as false, misleading, and designed to spread panic.
In a statement, NELFUND categorically refuted reports making the rounds on social media and online platforms, including a purported statement attributed to the agency and a newspaper front page allegedly published by The Nigerian Tribune.
According to the Fund, the materials in circulation are fabricated and did not originate from any authorised government or NELFUND communication channel.
NELFUND stated that no directive had been issued by either the Federal Government or the agency concerning the suspension of students’ upkeep allowance payments.
The Fund also clarified that the newspaper front page being circulated is AI-generated and does not represent a genuine publication from The Nigerian Tribune.
“These reports, including a fabricated statement falsely attributed to NELFUND and an AI-generated newspaper front page purportedly from The Nigerian Tribune, are entirely FAKE, misleading, and designed to create panic, confusion, and distrust among beneficiaries and the general public,” the statement read.
Reaffirming its position, the agency said it remains committed to the transparent and efficient disbursement of student loans and upkeep support in line with its mandate.
NELFUND advised beneficiaries, stakeholders, and members of the public to disregard the publications and rely only on verified information disseminated through its official communication channels and credible media platforms.
It also urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information capable of spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary anxiety among students and parents nationwide.
The Fund reiterated its commitment to expanding access to higher education and supporting Nigerian students through sustainable financing initiatives.
