Staff, students, and community members turned out in large numbers as the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences commemorated World Physical Activity Day with its 2026 Rector’s Fitness and Wellness Walk.
The event, held in the Ilese-Ijebu axis, was designed to promote healthy living and raise awareness about the importance of regular physical activity in preventing lifestyle-related illnesses.
Led by the Rector, Dr Rasak Akinbo, participants commenced the walk from the institution’s administrative block, moving through key parts of the host community to the Ilese Roundabout before returning to campus.
Speaking during the exercise, Akinbo emphasised the institution’s responsibility as a health-focused polytechnic to champion preventive healthcare practices.
He described regular physical activity as essential to maintaining overall well-being and noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to instil healthy habits among staff and students.
Also addressing participants, the Registrar, Mrs Modupe Ajala, highlighted the role of consistent exercise in reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases. She urged participants to make physical activity a daily routine beyond organised events.
The fitness walk also featured light workout sessions and health awareness campaigns aligned with global advocacy for active lifestyles.
Participants commended the initiative and called for its continuity, noting its relevance in promoting wellness within the academic community and beyond.
