The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted claims circulating in the media that the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, has instructed certain states to reopen schools during Ramadan.
In an official statement signed by Kabiru Haruna, Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations, the Ministry described the report as entirely baseless and misleading.
The statement clarified that in a recent interview with Channels Television, Professor Ahmad only expressed concerns over the academic time lost due to school closures.
She emphasised that the Federal Ministry of Education is actively engaging with affected states to address the issue.
Furthermore, the Ministry reiterated that education falls under the jurisdiction of state authorities, and while the Federal Government can provide recommendations and engage with states, it does not have the authority to enforce reopening decisions.
“The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to prioritising the safety and well-being of the education system in Nigeria.
Any decisions regarding school activities will be made with this commitment in mind,” the statement read.
The Ministry urged the public to disregard the false claims and rely on accurate information from official sources. It reaffirmed its dedication to the continued development of Nigeria’s education sector.
