The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has explained the process for members of the public to submit petitions on alleged cases of fraud and other financial crimes through its online portal.
According to the commission, petitioners are required to provide accurate information, as submitting a false petition is a criminal offence.
The EFCC warns that making a false petition is punishable under Section 64(3) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, with a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment or a fine not exceeding ₦100,000.
Below is the step-by-step process for submitting a petition.
Step 1: Provide your personal information
Complete the personal information section by filling in:
– First name
– Middle name (optional)
– Surname
– National Identification Number (NIN)
– Submission type
– Gender
– Phone number
– Email address
– Country
– State
– Local Government Area
– Residential address
Step 2: Enter the case information
Provide details relating to the alleged financial crime, including:
– Subject or title of the petition
– Name of the suspect
– Suspect’s location
– Name of the complainant
– Location where the alleged crime occurred
– Amount involved
– Currency
Step 3: Write the petition
In the petition section, provide a detailed narration of your complaint.
Step 4: Upload supporting documents (Optional)
The EFCC allows petitioners to upload supporting evidence.
Accepted file formats include:
– PDF documents
– Image files
Each uploaded file must not exceed 10MB.
Step 5: Complete the security verification
Before submitting your petition, complete the required security verification on the portal.
Step 6: Acknowledge the declaration
Confirm that you have read and understood the notice on false petitions and agree to provide truthful and accurate information.
The EFCC notes that providing complete and accurate information will enable it to process petitions more effectively.
