Another great day on our journey to reinvigorate the education sector by enhancing access to quality higher education, particularly in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences), fostering innovation in applied sciences, and strengthening Nigeria’s educational system.
Today, the Government of Kaduna officially handed over Nok University, Kachia, Kaduna State to the Federal Government of Nigeria, officially establishing it as the Federal University of Science and Technology.
The establishment of the University in Southern Kaduna also aligns with the President’s goal of expanding tertiary education infrastructure to accommodate the growing youth population, enhance human capital development, and bolster the country’s research and innovation capacity.
The Federal University of Science and Technology, Kachia, will begin operations in the 2025/2026 academic year, with initial programs focused on Applied Sciences, Medicine, Physical Sciences, and Engineering.
Efforts are already underway to secure accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the principal officers of the university will be announced soon.
I extend my gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and His Excellency Vice President Sen. Kashima Shettima, GCON, for facilitating this transfer of ownership, ensuring the university receives adequate funding and infrastructure support to maintain academic excellence.
I also extend my thanks to Sen. Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna, Sen. Sunday Katung, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman, EFCC, for their full cooperation in ensuring the seamless transition and sustainable operations of the university.
We are confident that the University will create job opportunities for the residents and communities in Southern Kaduna and the state at large, attract investments, and reduce educational disparities in the state.
