Babcock University has dismissed a student, Oladipupo Siwajuola, over multiple infractions including alleged drug peddling, impersonation, and engagement in fetish practices.
The institution made this known in an official statement issued on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, and signed by the Director of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman.
According to the statement, Siwajuola exited the university premises without authorisation on April 28, 2025. His disappearance triggered public concern after his mother took to social media on May 3 to accuse the university of negligence and complicity.
However, Babcock University refuted the allegations, describing the mother’s claims as “malicious and unfounded,” and confirmed that the student returned to the campus on May 15 with his father.
Upon return, the university said Siwajuola gave a detailed written statement to the institution’s Security Services Department, in which he admitted to leaving the campus disguised in a hoodie as a hospital out-patient through the university teaching hospital gate.
He further disclosed that he spent two nights in the Ilishan community and later travelled to Lagos, where he stayed with a friend identified as Sodiq.
The statement also revealed that Siwajuola confessed to using black soap allegedly purchased for nearly ₦100,000 from a traditional herbalist identified as Alfa Yusuf, for ritualistic purposes linked to internet fraud, popularly called “Yahoo Yahoo Plus.”
He also reportedly admitted to peddling prohibited drug substances on campus, impersonating another student by using their National Identification Number (NIN) to open a bank account, and borrowing ₦500,000 from an online loan platform to fund gambling activities.
Other alleged offences include the unauthorised sale of his phone under false pretences and violating university exit rules.
The disciplinary committee, after what the school described as a fair hearing, found Siwajuola guilty of the offences and approved his dismissal in line with the institution’s disciplinary policies.
“In view of the gravity of these misconducts, and in line with the provisions of the university’s disciplinary policy aimed at maintaining a safe, secure, and morally sound learning environment, the university has taken the difficult but necessary decision to dismiss Master Oladipupo Siwajuola with immediate effect,” the statement read.
While the university condemned the mother’s social media outburst, it said it would not pursue a libel case, citing the responsible conduct of Siwajuola’s father.
Babcock University reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and moral integrity, urging the public to disregard what it described as false information.
The institution concluded by calling on parents to raise their children with values of accountability and uprightness in alignment with the university’s faith-based standards.
