The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, has unveiled an ambitious 25-year plan to reposition the institution as a digitally driven, entrepreneurially focused and globally connected university.
The plan was adopted at a two-day Strategic Retreat of the university’s Governing Council and management held in Lagos, with participants agreeing to work together to transform FUOYE by 2050.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede, said the retreat focused on aligning governance, partnerships and financial sustainability with the institution’s long-term vision.
According to him, both the council and management resolved that FUOYE would deliberately embrace digital innovation, entrepreneurship and global collaboration to compete among leading universities worldwide.
“They agreed that by 2050, FUOYE should be digitally empowered, financially sustainable, ethically grounded and socially responsive,” Ogunmodede said.
As part of efforts to strengthen financial resilience, the university plans to diversify its revenue sources through endowments, alumni contributions, public-private partnerships, grants and enterprise-based ventures, while still ensuring affordability and access for students.
The retreat also resolved to reinforce governance systems to promote transparency, accountability, ethical leadership and performance-based management across all levels of the institution. Risk management, campus safety and institutional resilience will also be integrated into strategic and operational decisions.
The management commended the outgoing
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, for what it described as impactful leadership over the past five years, citing improvements in academic development, research visibility, infrastructure and institutional stability.
The university also congratulated the incoming Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, describing his appointment as seamless, transparent and a model of good governance. Fasina is expected to vacate office next month after completing his tenure.
The statement noted that both Fasina and Ogunwole were actively involved in developing the 25-year strategic plan, a move seen as key to leadership continuity and effective implementation.
FUOYE explained that the long-term plan provides a phased and realistic roadmap for the university’s growth and future development.
