The Lagos State Government has continued to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening public education with the upgrade of the Tolu School Complex, now regarded as one of the largest school complexes in the world.
The development reflects ongoing efforts by the state government to improve access to quality education through infrastructure expansion, modernisation, and the provision of learning facilities.
The Tolu School Complex, recently upgraded, is the largest in Nigeria and West Africa, housing 36 schools in a single cluster. The schools include 15 junior secondary schools, 16 senior secondary schools, and five primary schools.
The complex also features football fields, basketball courts, and other modern facilities designed to support both academic and extracurricular activities.
The project is expected to provide a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers, while also improving the overall standard of public education in the state.
Over the years, Lagos public education has played a significant role in shaping individuals across different sectors. Notable personalities such as Ibukun Awosika, Folake Solanke, Bisi Fayemi, and Wole Soyinka are among those who attended public schools in Lagos.
The state government has, in recent years, continued to commission new schools while upgrading existing ones, a move aimed at securing the future of education and ensuring equal access for learners across different backgrounds.
To mark the completion of the Tolu School Complex, the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is scheduled to commission the facility, highlighting its importance as a major milestone in the state’s education sector.
The project is expected to encourage improved academic performance, discipline, and collaboration among students and teachers, while positioning Lagos as a leading centre for public education in Nigeria.
The development further underscores the state’s ongoing efforts to provide inclusive and quality education for both low- and high-income families.
