Former Super Eagles striker, Michael Eneramo, has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.
According to reports, the 40-year-old slumped while featuring in a local game at the Angwan Yelwa pitch in the Television area of Kaduna. Eyewitness accounts said he had come on as a second-half substitute before suddenly collapsing without any contact from other players.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead despite efforts to revive him.
A source familiar with the incident said, “He slumped and died right on the spot. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.”
Eneramo, a former professional footballer, had previously played for clubs including Turkish side Beşiktaş, Tunisian giants Espérance, and Nigerian club Lobi Stars. He was also involved in football development after retirement, reportedly running a football academy.
His death has sparked tributes from fans and the football community. The official Super Eagles social media handle also mourned him, posting his image with the message: “Rest in peace Michael.”
Eneramo earned recognition during his playing career for his goal-scoring ability and contributions to Nigerian football at both club and international levels.
