The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced adjustments to examination schedules and question formats as part of measures to curb cross-border examination leakages.
The Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, John Kapi, disclosed this during an interview on Adom TV’s Badwam programme.
He explained that although Ghana and Nigeria previously wrote identical examination questions at the same time, new changes have been introduced following reported cases of examination leakages across borders.
According to him, the adjustments affect both the structure of questions and the timing of examinations in order to reduce malpractice.
Kapi noted that since Nigeria is one hour ahead of Ghana, the examination timetable has also been revised. He explained that instead of the usual 9:00 a.m. start time in Ghana, examinations now begin at 8:30 a.m., with corresponding adjustments made in Nigeria.
He added that the reforms are aimed at strengthening the integrity of WAEC examinations and ensuring fairness across member countries.
The WAEC spokesperson emphasized that the measures are part of ongoing efforts to prevent malpractice and safeguard the credibility of the examination system in the West African sub-region.
