The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, commemorated Flag Day on Wednesday with a ceremony that highlighted national pride and civic responsibility ahead of The Bahamas’ Independence celebrations.
The event, held on the front lawn of the Ivy Dumont Building, brought together executives and staff from both ministries, who dressed in the national flag colours and waved Bahamian flags in celebration.
Addressing attendees, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Hon. I. Chester Cooper, called on Bahamians to renew their commitment to nation-building by actively contributing to the country’s continued growth and development.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mario Bowleg, and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Senator Hon. Keenan Johnson, also spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of reflecting on the meaning and significance of Bahamian independence.
The celebration featured a special performance by student and poet Vincenesha Ferguson, who recited an original poem titled “Happy Independence Bahamas,” paying tribute to the nation’s journey and aspirations.
The ceremony was moderated by the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Neil Campbell.
