The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of approved outstanding 2025 allowances to Nigerian students studying abroad under the now-terminated Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme.
The Federal Ministry of Education disclosed this in a statement, noting that the Central Bank of Nigeria has successfully remitted approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions for immediate disbursement to eligible beneficiaries.
According to the ministry, the funds have already reached embassy accounts in partner countries, while affected missions are expected to begin payment to scholars immediately.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the released funds represent 50 per cent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025.
He added that efforts were ongoing to facilitate the release of the remaining balance.
“The released funds represent 50 percent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025, while efforts are ongoing to facilitate the release of the balance in due course,” Alausa said.
The minister advised beneficiaries to monitor their bank accounts, noting that payments are expected to begin reflecting as embassies commence disbursement.
According to him, the development reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the welfare, academic progress and wellbeing of Nigerian students abroad under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Alausa also commended affected scholars for their patience, understanding and resilience, stressing that the Federal Government remained committed to ensuring that Nigerian students pursuing academic excellence under government scholarship schemes receive the needed support.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling legitimate obligations to Nigerian scholars and sustaining interventions aimed at promoting access to quality education, student welfare and national development through human capital development.
The ministry further assured stakeholders of its continued support for Nigerian students globally and pledged effective implementation of government scholarship programmes.
