On this special occasion, Edutimes Africa joins Nigerians in celebrating Dr. Tunji Alausa on his birthday.
We recognise a period of leadership in Nigeria’s education sector that has been marked by deliberate reforms and emerging initiatives aimed at strengthening access, relevance, and outcomes across all levels of learning.
In the past year, key steps have been taken toward repositioning the system through a stronger data-driven foundation, including enhanced national school census processes and improved learner identification systems designed to support better planning, accountability, and inclusion.
There has also been a clear shift toward skills-based education through the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), reinforcing the importance of practical competencies and employability in a changing global economy.
Notable among recent interventions is the introduction of innovation-focused programmes such as the Student Venture Capital Prize, designed to support student-led ideas, entrepreneurship, and creativity within tertiary institutions. This initiative reflects a growing emphasis on students not only as learners, but as innovators capable of solving real-world problems.
Alongside these, renewed attention to teacher development, education financing, digital transformation, and system-wide coordination continues to define the direction of reform.
Today, we celebrate not just a birthday, but a commitment to service and the ongoing effort to strengthen Nigeria’s education ecosystem.
On behalf of Edutimes Africa, we wish Dr. Tunji Alausa a happy birthday and continued wisdom, strength, and impact in service to the nation.
