The School of Infrastructure, Mineral and Manufacturing Engineering (SIMME) of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA on Monday April 13,2026 organized a seminar to enhance the service delivery of the Administrative staff of the Schol . The School Officer, Mr. A. Akinyode in his opening address noted that the training programme was put together to encourage, sensitize and empower Administrative staff members in SIMME to perform their duties better.
He stated further that there could not have been better resource persons to handle the training than Mr. V. C. Blackwell and Mrs. V. A. Adamolekun due to their years of experience in the University system. The two are great administrators who possess institutional memory on university administration. He encouraged administrative staff in the school to pay attention and be guided by what they learn during the training programme. He appreciated the Dean, Prof. C. O. Akinbile for his leadership and open door policy which has contributed in no small measure to peace and development being witnessed in the School so far.
The Dean, Prof. C. O. Akinbile noted the importance of training and retraining in the life of individuals, especially, professionals in any organisation. He stated that leaning is a continuous process and he charged Registry staff in SIMME to take the opportunity of the in-house training programe to become better in their duties.
Presenting on the topic titled “Record keeping and office management in the University” Mr. V. C. Blackwell stated that Record keeping is the systematic control of information through the life of cycle of the institution from creation to disposal. He noted that proper management of records ensures accountability, efficiency and administrative activities. He encouraged participants to pay attention to record keeping as they carry out their day to day official duties because it is essential to achieving the set goals and objectives in higher education institutions.
Mrs. Adamolekun on her part presenting on the topic titled “Confidentiality and Ethics in Secretarial Practices” defined Confidentiality as information that should not be shared, such as medical records or business data, and can also describe a tone of voice implying secrecy. Ethics on the other hand was defined as principles that govern the behaviour of a person or group in a business environment. She encouraged confidential secretaries to maintain: Integrity & Honesty. Professional Secrecy: Reliability & Dependability, Impartiality & Objectivity, Dignity & Professionalism.
