At the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences Iyin Ekiti, the story of its Faculty of Computing begins with one name — Abiodun Oguntimilehin.
A professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Oguntimilehin currently serves as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty, bringing nearly two decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership into shaping one of the institution’s foundational faculties.
His academic journey reflects consistency and depth. He earned his Ph.D. and M.Tech in Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology Akure, after completing his undergraduate studies at Ekiti State University. Long before then, his leadership traits had already emerged from graduating as the best student in secondary school to serving as Senior Prefect.
From Lecturer to Professor
Oguntimilehin’s career progression has been marked by steady growth across institutions. He began his university teaching career at Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti, where he rose from Assistant Lecturer to Associate Professor between 2011 and 2020.
Before transitioning fully into university academia, he had built early teaching experience at Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo — experiences that shaped his interdisciplinary and practical approach to education.
At FUTES-Iyin, he now leads the Faculty of Computing, while also serving on key institutional committees, including the Conference Attendance Committee, Academic Staff Training and Development Committee, and the Committee of Deans.
Administrative Footprint
Beyond teaching, his administrative contributions span programme coordination, curriculum development, accreditation processes, and student mentorship. During his time at ABUAD, he served in multiple leadership roles, including Head of Programme, advisory positions, and committee leadership across academic and disciplinary structures.
His work has consistently focused on strengthening academic systems, improving programme quality, and supporting student development.
Research and Academic Impact
Widely recognised for his work in intelligent computational systems, Oguntimilehin’s research cuts across machine learning, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and medical informatics.
His contributions stand out for their real-world application — particularly in healthcare, where he has developed clinical decision support systems targeting diseases such as malaria and typhoid.
With over 90 academic publications, including 48 indexed in Scopus, his work enjoys strong international visibility. He has also supervised numerous postgraduate students in areas such as blockchain, cybersecurity, and computer vision, contributing to the development of future researchers.
In 2026, he was ranked among the Top 500 Researchers in Nigeria by SciVal — a recognition of his growing influence in global research circles.
Professional Engagement and Recognition
Oguntimilehin is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Nigeria Computer Society, the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, and the International Association of Engineers.
He also serves as a reviewer for multiple academic journals, including outlets under Springer Nature and Elsevier, and contributes as a Section Editor for the Journal of the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences.
His contributions have earned him multiple awards, ranging from teaching excellence to community recognition, including honours from his hometown, Erijiyan-Ekiti.
Building a Faculty, Shaping a Future
As pioneer Dean, his role goes beyond administration, it is about laying the intellectual and structural foundation of a new faculty in a fast-evolving field.
From curriculum design to research direction, Oguntimilehin represents a model of academic leadership rooted in innovation, discipline, and impact.
At FUTES-Iyin, his work signals more than personal achievement, it reflects the building of a new academic culture centred on technology, relevance, and global competitiveness.
