A homecoming filled with admiration, reflection and inspiration unfolded at Ajayi Crowther University as popular actress Jumoke Odetola returned to her alma mater for a distinguished personality lecture centred on growth, reinvention and purpose.
Held under the theme, “Reinventing Yourself: Unlocking Personal Growth in a Changing World,” the event brought together students, lecturers, alumni and guests who gathered to celebrate the actress’s journey from student to screen star and creative entrepreneur.
Odetola was received on arrival by Dr Peter Oiku before being ushered to the office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ebunoluwa Oduwole. Excitement swept through the university community as one of its notable alumni returned to campus.
In a symbolic moment during the visit, the actress presented the vice chancellor with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her leadership and legacy as the institution’s first female vice chancellor, a gesture that drew admiration from guests and added an emotional touch to the occasion.
Addressing students during the lecture, Odetola encouraged them to embrace reinvention, resilience and continuous self-development in navigating an ever-changing world.
She stressed the importance of discipline, courage and personal growth in overcoming setbacks and building meaningful success.
Reflecting on her journey, the actress recounted how her academic foundation at Ajayi Crowther shaped her career path.
She graduated from the institution with a degree in Computer Science with an ICT option before earning a Master of Science degree in Information Technology and another Master’s degree in Business Administration. She later expanded her creative training at London Film Academy, where she studied Film Producing.
Speaking at the event, the vice chancellor described Odetola as an exceptional ambassador of the university and an embodiment of excellence, resilience and lifelong learning.
She urged students to see the actress as proof that determination, discipline and purpose can open doors to greatness.
The celebration extended into the evening with theatre performances staged in Odetola’s honour by students, whose creativity and artistic displays entertained guests and added colour to the gathering.
Impressed by the performances, Odetola praised the students’ talents and disclosed plans to collaborate with some of them on future movie projects.
