The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed a viral message claiming that all schools across the country will shut down from November 24, describing it as completely false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, said the message, which has been widely circulated on social media, did not originate from the Federal Government, the ministry, any state government, or any security agency.
Boriowo urged parents, students, teachers, and school administrators not to panic, stressing that no such directive was issued.
She explained that the ministry would never announce a nationwide school closure through unofficial channels, adding that verified information would always come from recognised government platforms.
“We encourage the public to rely only on information from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, state ministries of education, and recognised security agencies,” the statement said.
The ministry also appealed to Nigerians to avoid sharing unverified messages, warning that false information can cause unnecessary fear and disrupt academic activities.
The clarification comes as many parents expressed concern after the rumour spread across WhatsApp and Facebook, creating confusion in several school communities.
Boriowo assured the public that schools remain open and academic activities continue as scheduled.
