Students under the aegis of the Nasarawa State Students Association have commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for efforts aimed at improving security across campuses in the state.
The association said the governor’s interventions have helped to address cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities affecting institutions across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State.
The National President of the association, Ovey Abimiku David, gave the commendation during the group’s 29th Celebration and Awards Day held in Lafia on Saturday.
According to him, following repeated concerns raised by students over insecurity on campuses, the governor engaged relevant stakeholders and security agencies to find lasting solutions to the menace.
David also praised the state government’s commitment to student welfare, citing regular bursary payments, scholarships, and infrastructural upgrades in schools and hostels.
He described the NASSA at 29 celebration as an opportunity to honour the association’s founding fathers and past leaders while acknowledging the support received from the state government.
Also speaking at the event, the lawmaker representing Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon and Wamba Federal Constituency, Jeremiah Umaru, urged students to remain focused on their academic pursuits.
He highlighted his sponsorship of a bill to establish a National Youth Development Commission and the creation of a skill acquisition centre in Akwanga to empower young people with practical skills.
The Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund, Abubakar Adamu Idris, emphasised leadership and academic excellence as pathways to youth development, reaffirming the fund’s commitment to supporting students in public schools.
The three-day celebration featured a special Juma’at prayer, novelty football match, awards presentation, magazine launch, and a thanksgiving service, drawing participation from students, alumni, and key stakeholders across the state.
