The Ministry of Information and Civic Education has today, 23rd February, concluded Day 1 of the Civic Day Series in Kono District, with a school Quiz and Debate Competition. This took place at the Kono District Council.
Eight secondary schools participated in the competition, including Koidu Girls Secondary School, Ansarul Islamic Secondary School, Universe Secondary School, Experimental Secondary School, Koidu Secondary School, Municipal Secondary School, Islamic Secondary School, and Cluny Free The Children Secondary School.
Six pupils took part in the Quiz Segment, which covered topics on the history of Sierra Leone, Kono, Education, the National Census, and general Civic knowledge. After three rounds, Francis Mansaray of Cluny Free The Children Secondary School emerged first with 16 points, followed by Drucilla Komafoh of Municipal Secondary School in second place with 13 points. Destiny Kalokoh of Universe Secondary School in third place with 12 points.
The Debate Competition featured four rounds, with topics ranging from corruption, Free quality Education and the Constitutional Review Process. Mohamed Sahr Sandy of Cluny Free The Children Secondary School emerged in first place with 26 points, while Alice Ama Asiedu of Koidu Girls Secondary School took second place with 18 points.
Winners received prizes, including cash awards, backpacks, and census-branded T-shirts. First-place winners received NLe 2,000, a backpack, and a census T-shirt. The second-place winners received NLe 1,500 and a T-shirt and third-place winner received NLe 1,000 and a T-shirt.
The Civic Day Series continues tomorrow with a mega town hall meeting of top government officials and the people. A short presentation of certificates to participants and winners will be held.
