About 3,000 students have graduated from nine Vocational Enterprise Institutes and Centres across Borno State, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts to equip young people with practical and employable skills.
The Federal Government commended the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state and creating opportunities for students to develop hands-on skills that can support their livelihoods.
In a statement released on Sunday by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a significant step toward empowering young Nigerians.
According to the statement, the graduates were not only trained in different vocational skills but were also provided with starter packs and a ₦100,000 entrepreneurship grant each to help them begin productive economic activities.
Alausa noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises youth empowerment and economic inclusion through skills development.
He added that the Federal Government is implementing a nationwide TVET programme aimed at providing about 250,000 training opportunities for young Nigerians. Currently, more than 180,000 youths are already undergoing training in
centres across the country.
The minister explained that the programme adopts a model that focuses on 80 per cent practical training and 20 per cent theoretical instruction to ensure students gain hands-on experience that meets industry demands.
He also revealed that a national TVET job portal is being developed to connect skilled graduates with employment opportunities, while artisans will receive support through starter packs and access to affordable loans.
The Federal Ministry of Education, he said, remains committed to expanding skills development programmes to further empower young Nigerians and promote economic growth.
