The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed viral reports claiming that abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area have been rescued, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Command warned the public against spreading unverified claims, noting that such misinformation could create panic and interfere with ongoing security operations.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the victims are still in captivity, and coordinated rescue efforts by security agencies are actively ongoing to secure their safe release and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Command specifically refuted social media reports suggesting that the abducted victims had already regained freedom, insisting that no such rescue has taken place.
It urged residents of Oyo State and the general public to remain calm, support security agencies, and rely only on official channels for verified updates.
The police further cautioned that the spread of fake news could worsen the situation by increasing tension and diverting attention from critical rescue operations.
Meanwhile, reports from Sahara Reporters recalled that the abduction incident has triggered widespread concern, following coordinated attacks on schools in parts of the state, including fatalities and the kidnapping of students, pupils, and teachers.
Security agencies, the Command added, remain committed to ensuring the safe return of all victims and bringing those responsible to justice as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
