The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the statement, the government urged Muslim faithful across the country to embrace the values of sacrifice, peace, love, and unity which Eid-el-Kabir represents.
The minister also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the peace, stability, and continued progress of the nation.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, is one of the most significant Islamic celebrations, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.
The public holiday announcement means government offices, banks, and many businesses across Nigeria are expected to remain closed on both days.
