Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has made history after becoming Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant, earning the prestigious qualification through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Her achievement has drawn commendation from the Federal Government, with the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, describing the feat as a testament to hard work, discipline, resilience and excellence.
In a statement, the minister congratulated the teenager, saying her accomplishment demonstrates the immense potential of Nigerian youths when provided with the right support and opportunities.
“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at just 16 years of age,” Olawande said.
He noted that Okundaye’s success should inspire other young Nigerians to remain focused on their educational and professional aspirations.
According to the minister, the teenager has become a shining example of the limitless possibilities available to Nigerian youths through determination and dedication.
Okundaye’s achievement surpasses the previous record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who qualified as a chartered accountant at the age of 17.
Qualifying as a chartered accountant in Nigeria requires candidates to complete a rigorous professional programme and pass multiple examinations administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), making the accomplishment particularly remarkable for someone of her age.
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development reaffirmed its commitment to supporting talented young Nigerians through policies and programmes aimed at promoting academic excellence, innovation and youth development.
Okundaye’s record-breaking achievement has been widely celebrated as a symbol of hope and a reminder that Nigerian youths can continue to break barriers and set new standards of excellence.
