The Federal Government has unveiled the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), a new national education data platform aimed at improving planning, accountability and evidence-based decision-making across the country’s education sector.
The platform was launched in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, who described DNEMIS as a major reform that replaces the traditional paper-based Annual School Census with a real-time digital system capable of capturing comprehensive data on schools, learners, teachers, classrooms and education infrastructure.
According to the minister, the platform has already captured data from 124,548 schools, representing 58.4 per cent national coverage. It has also recorded more than 40 million learners, 1.19 million teachers, 730,000 classrooms and 607,000 sanitation facilities across the country.
Dr. Alausa disclosed that every school has been geo-mapped, while each learner will be assigned a unique 16-digit Learner Identification Number linked to the National Identification Number to improve data accuracy and tracking.
He explained that the digital platform would support government planning and budgeting, enhance teacher deployment, strengthen school safety measures and improve the delivery of interventions aimed at boosting learning outcomes.
The minister also commended development partners for supporting the initiative and reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring that every school, teacher and learner is captured on the platform to promote equitable, inclusive and quality education across Nigeria.
The launch of DNEMIS marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s efforts to modernise education data management and strengthen policy implementation through reliable, real-time information.
