Three Nigerian pupils have brought pride to the country after winning gold medals at the International STEM Olympiad, earning global recognition for their outstanding performances in science and mathematics.
The medal winners are Chimdiebube Onwubiko, Don Anele Munachimso, and Onyedikachi Egejurum, who emerged among the competition’s top-performing participants.
Education advocate and technologist Alex Onyia announced the achievement on Tuesday via his X account, describing the feat as another testament to the immense potential of Nigerian children when given the right opportunities.
According to Onyia, Don Anele Munachimso secured a gold medal in Science and was named the overall best student in the category worldwide. He noted that the student had previously distinguished himself as Nigeria’s top performer in IGCSE Chemistry.
He also revealed that Onyedikachi Egejurum emerged as the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category after winning a gold medal, while Chimdiebube Onwubiko also earned a gold medal for an impressive performance at the international competition.
Celebrating the students’ success, Onyia said the accomplishment demonstrates the value of investing in quality education and nurturing young talents. He expressed optimism that the achievement signals a brighter future for Nigeria’s growing community of STEM innovators.
The International STEM Olympiad brings together outstanding young learners from different countries to compete in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, providing a platform for academic excellence and global recognition.
