The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has presented appointment letters to 992 newly recruited teachers as part of the State Government’s commitment to strengthening public secondary education and improving learning outcomes.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, congratulated the successful applicants for emerging from a rigorous recruitment process. She urged them to uphold the ethics and values of the teaching profession while serving as worthy ambassadors of the Lagos State Government.
Mrs. Peregrino explained that the recruitment exercise was designed to address staffing shortages in public secondary schools, particularly in core science and technical subjects, and to ensure that qualified teachers are available to meet the needs of the state’s rapidly growing student population.
She noted that Lagos, one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities, must continually replace retired and exited teachers to prevent overcrowded classrooms and maintain quality education.
The TESCOM Chairman encouraged the new teachers to understand the strengths and challenges of their students, adopt creative and innovative teaching methods, and embrace continuous professional development. She also stressed the importance of integrating technology into classroom instruction, applying non-violent disciplinary measures, and maintaining professional appearance and conduct.
Also addressing the teachers, the Commission Member representing Ikeja Division, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, and the Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, Mr. Olawale Ojikutu, warned against acts of bullying and sexual harassment, emphasizing the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance stance on such misconduct. They urged the teachers to remain dedicated, punctual, and committed to their responsibilities.
Responding on behalf of the newly recruited teachers, Mr. Orire Ajayi Samuel expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to serve, pledging that the new teachers would discharge their duties diligently and uphold the confidence reposed in them.
The newly recruited teachers will be deployed to public secondary schools across the six education districts of Lagos State after completing the necessary documentation.
