The August 10 Club in Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has launched a scholarship scheme aimed at supporting outstanding university students from the community.
Here are five things to know about the initiative:
1. 10 students received scholarships
The club awarded scholarships to 10 indigenes of Oye-Ekiti who are currently studying in universities across Nigeria.
2. Academic performance determined the beneficiaries
The beneficiaries were not selected randomly. According to the club, academic performance was a major criterion in selecting the students.
The club said the students were chosen based on their commitment to their studies and academic achievements.
3. The scheme is designed to ease students’ financial burden
The scholarship is intended to provide financial support to the beneficiaries and ease some of the challenges associated with their university education.
The club said the initiative is part of its broader effort to encourage young people to pursue academic excellence.
4. The scholarship will become an annual programme
The 2026 awards mark the maiden edition of the scholarship scheme.
According to the club, the initiative will continue annually as part of efforts to support and encourage more young people from Oye-Ekiti.
5. Beneficiaries have been urged to excel
The club urged the scholarship recipients to use the funds judiciously and remain committed to their studies.
The Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju, also congratulated the students and encouraged them to justify the confidence placed in them through excellent academic performance.
The monarch further called on other community organisations and individuals to support similar initiatives that can contribute to the educational development of young people in Oye-Ekiti.
