The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that it has completed payments to all 72,138 examiners engaged as ad-hoc staff for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Responding to recent speculation that it withheld payments, NECO clarified that delays were due to incorrect bank details submitted by some examiners, temporarily affecting the process.
According to a statement from Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, payments began on October 4, 2024, through a bank-by-bank schedule to avoid complications.
“NECO has completed payment of examiners’ allowances as of today, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in line with the council’s payment plan,” the statement said.
NECO reported that all 24 banks involved in the process have been cleared, and advised its personnel to seek direct clarification from NECO regarding any issues. The council reassured examiners and ad-hoc staff that timely payment will remain a priority and acknowledged the essential role they play.
The council also described rumors alleging intentional non-payment as “incorrect and false.”
