The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence six new undergraduate academic programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval followed a successful resource assessment visit conducted by the NUC to evaluate the University’s readiness and the availability of the required human and material resources for the proposed programmes.
In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Babatunde Kehinde, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission conveyed the Commission’s approval after reviewing the outcome of the assessment exercise.
The newly approved programmes are Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geophysics, Public Health, Biotechnology, Science Laboratory Technology, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and Clothing and Textile.
FUNAAB said the approval represents a significant milestone in its efforts to broaden academic opportunities, strengthen manpower development, and address emerging national and global demands in science, technology, healthcare, and sustainable development.
According to the university, the addition of the six programmes will further enhance its capacity to produce highly skilled graduates equipped to contribute to national development while reinforcing its position as a leading institution committed to academic excellence, innovation, and research.
The development is expected to expand access to specialised training in critical sectors and support Nigeria’s growing need for professionals in public health, biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and applied sciences.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, on behalf of the university.
