CALL FOR CONSULTANTS: RESEARCH AND ASSESSMENT ON SCHOOL RE-ENTRY FOR MARRIED AND PREGNANT GIRLS
Organization: Onelife Initiative for Human Development
Locations: Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Kano, and Kaduna States
Project Scope: Strategic Support for Continuing Education (SSCE)Primary & Secondary Schooling (K-12)
About the Opportunity
Onelife Initiative is a leading non-governmental organization dedicated to social development and policy advocacy. We are currently seeking to engage five (5) highly experienced and versatile consultants to lead a specialized assessment across five key Northern Nigerian states: Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Kano, and Kaduna. This research aims to identify and analyze prime re-entry opportunities and existing educational practices for married and pregnant girls.
In many regions, socio-cultural barriers and policy gaps prevent young girls from returning to the classroom after marriage or pregnancy. This assessment is a critical component of a larger mission to influence state-level policies and federal-level interventions, ensuring that every girl, regardless of her marital or maternal status, has a clear and supported pathway back to formal education.
Key Deliverables and Responsibilities
The selected consultants will be expected to provide high-level technical expertise in the following areas:
1. Framework Development: Design a robust assessment framework and methodology tailored to the specific socio-cultural dynamics of the target states.
2. Field Research: Plan and execute comprehensive qualitative and quantitative data collection, including Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with policymakers, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with affected girls and families, and In-depth Interviews (IDIs) with educational administrators.
3. Data Synthesis and Reporting: Analyze field findings to produce a high-quality, comprehensive report. This document must include actionable, evidence-based recommendations designed to trigger high-level advocacy and immediate state-level policy action.
4. Stakeholder Validation: Facilitate validation workshops with key stakeholders to ensure the findings are accurate, culturally sensitive, and aligned with the strategic goals of development partners.
Requirements
• Advanced degree in Education, Gender Studies, Sociology, Public Policy, or a related field.
• Proven track record in conducting educational research or gender-based assessments in Northern Nigeria.
• Deep understanding of the barriers to female education and the nuances of state-level educational policies.
• Fluency in English and local languages (Hausa) relevant to the target states is highly desirable.
