The management of Plateau State University, Bokkos, has sanctioned 76 students for engaging in examination malpractice.
This was disclosed in a statement issued in Jos by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Masara Kim.
According to him, the action was approved by the university’s Senate during its 102nd regular meeting, chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Moses Galadima, following a report by the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct.
Kim said the affected students were found guilty of various offences committed during the second semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The offences included possession of mobile phones in examination halls, use of written notes, and inscriptions on body parts related to examination questions.
“After deliberations, the Senate approved punishments in line with the provisions of the students’ handbook,” he said.
The sanctions imposed include rustication for one academic session, compulsory carryover of affected courses, and outright expulsion in severe cases.
The university management reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, stressing the importance of maintaining academic integrity.
Kim added that the Vice-Chancellor, Shedrach Best, has consistently emphasised discipline, integrity and strong moral values within the institution.
The development comes amid similar actions by other universities across Nigeria. Recently, the University of Abuja expelled 28 students for offences including examination malpractice and result falsification, while Bayero University Kano expelled 62 students and rusticated 17 others over examination misconduct.
