A new study from researchers at the University of Lagos is changing how postpartum care could be handled, especially for women dealing with anaemia after childbirth.
The research, known as the IVON-PP Trial, found that giving iron through the vein helps women recover their blood levels faster and more safely than taking iron by mouth.
Led by Bosede B. Afolabi, the study brought together experts from different medical fields in Nigeria, alongside collaborators from the United Kingdom.
At the centre of the trial is a drug called Ferric Carboxymaltose, tested on women after childbirth to treat anaemia — a condition that remains common among new mothers.
