The Kaduna State Government is moving to strengthen digital education through a proposed partnership with the University of London.
The collaboration is part of efforts to build a more technology-driven and globally competitive education system in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abubakar Sambo, disclosed this during a press briefing, noting that a state delegation recently attended the 2026 Research in Distance and E-Learning (RIDE) Conference hosted by the university.
According to him, the delegation—made up of five professors engaged with global experts in online, blended, and distance learning.
“Our participation in the RIDE conference provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with global leaders in digital education,” Sambo said.
A key outcome of the visit was discussions with the Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE), a unit of the University of London, opening the door for collaboration with Kaduna State University.
The proposed partnership will focus on strengthening digital and distance learning programmes, with plans to formalise the arrangement through a Memorandum of Understanding.
As part of the initiative, a pilot Central Learning Management System (LMS) will be introduced at Kaduna State University, while lecturers will receive training in digital teaching and online course delivery.
The partnership is also expected to support joint research, academic exchanges, and the development of digital learning infrastructure, with technical support from CODE.
Sambo added that Kaduna’s ongoing reforms—such as hybrid learning models and computer-based testing—were recognised at the conference, as the state continues efforts to expand access to education, especially for out-of-school children.
Members of the delegation included KASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, alongside other senior academics.
The move signals Kaduna’s push to align with global trends, where digital platforms and flexible learning are fast becoming the standard for education delivery.
