The Federal Government has announced Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in commemoration of International Workers’ Day.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and conveyed through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
In the statement, the minister extended congratulations to Nigerian workers, acknowledging their vital role in driving national development and sustaining the country’s economy.
He encouraged workers to continue demonstrating commitment, patriotism, and dedication in their respective roles, noting that these values remain essential to Nigeria’s progress.
Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and fostering an enabling environment that supports economic growth and stability.
He further urged citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while reflecting on the importance of unity and hard work in building a stronger nation.
