President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a major leadership transition in Nigeria’s tertiary admission system.
Professor Aina will take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second-term tenure is expected to end on July 31, 2026.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the appointment reflects the Federal Government’s confidence in Aina’s technical expertise and administrative experience in education systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector reform.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina is widely recognised as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in his field. He holds advanced degrees in computer systems engineering, internet computing, and digital signal processing from universities in the United Kingdom, alongside professional training at the Lagos Business School.
Before his appointment, Aina had consulted for examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, and contributed to reforms in ICT-driven examination systems and admissions processes. He is also a member of several professional engineering and technology organisations.
President Tinubu expressed optimism that the new registrar will build on ongoing reforms in JAMB and further strengthen transparency, efficiency, and digital innovation in Nigeria’s examination and admission processes.
