The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, with 186,291 candidates participating in the examination across the country.
According to the examination body, candidates sat for 12 subjects from all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries. The examination was conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026.
The results were approved after the 2026 BECE Award Committee meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, commended NECO for the smooth conduct of the examination and the prompt release of the results.
The meeting was attended by principals of secondary schools from across Nigeria, alongside members of NECO’s management.
The Award Committee also approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
NECO explained that the re-sit examination is intended for candidates who recorded conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects. The initiative will enable affected students to correct the deficiencies and secure the required qualifications for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I) without repeating an academic year.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its assessment process while providing eligible candidates with another opportunity to advance in their academic journey.
