Success is often measured in medals, and this time, an Ogun State school returned from Italy with 34 of them, delivering one of Nigeria’s strongest performances at the 2026 International STEM Olympiad.
The Ambassadors Schools, Ota, Ogun State, announced that its 16-member team won 15 gold medals, nine silver medals, nine bronze medals and one honourable mention at the competition held in Rome, Italy.
In a statement shared on its official Instagram page on Wednesday, the school said its students excelled across the junior and senior categories of Mathematics, Science, Coding and the Bridge Challenge.
Three students—Amaechi Udochukwu, Oluwaseyi Odewoye and Obosi-Iyor Inino—also emerged as Best in the World in the Bridge Challenge category.
“Another success at the 2026 International STEM Olympiad.
“Sixteen Ambassadors, 16 Champions: 15 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals, 9 Bronze Medals, 1 Honourable Mention.
“Our 16 ambassadors from The Ambassadors College emerged as champions, excelling in the Junior and Senior Categories of Coding, Mathematics, Science and the Bridge Challenge.
“Ambassadors Amaechi Udochukwu, Oluwaseyi Odewoye and Obosi-Iyor Inino also emerged as Best in the World for the Bridge Challenge.
“Congratulations to our Ambassadors on making themselves, the school and the nation proud. We remain the Home of Champions and where God helps us to build a Total Child,” the statement read.
According to the school, the students were privately sponsored to represent Nigeria after qualifying for the international competition.
Among the Mathematics gold medallists were Daniel Abara, Taiwo Demilade, David Ufondu, Chidalu Emeka-Okoye and Idu Seth.
In Science, gold medals were won by Teniayo Alade, Daniel Abara, Treasures Olawunmi Jephtah, Chidalu Emeka-Okoye and Daniel Afolabi.
The achievement comes barely a day after three other Nigerian students, sponsored by Educare Chief Executive Officer, Alex Onyia, also won gold medals at the same competition.
Thirteen-year-old Onwubiko Chimdiebube, 17-year-old Don Anele Munachimso and 11-year-old Egejurum Onyedikachi all clinched gold medals for Nigeria.
Don Anele emerged as the world’s best in Science after winning two gold medals, while Egejurum was named the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category. Chimdiebube also secured a gold medal in Mathematics.
The trio qualified through the Southeast Mathematics Olympiad organised by Onyia, who sponsored their registration, visas, flights, accommodation and other travel expenses.
The 2026 International STEM Olympiad was held at the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and attracted participants from more than 150 countries competing in Mathematics, Science, Coding and other STEM-related events.
Nigeria’s impressive outing at the competition comes amid recent concerns over the country’s declining participation in major international academic contests following funding challenges.
The latest victories by students of The Ambassadors Schools and the Onyia-sponsored Team Nigeria have renewed calls for greater investment in gifted young Nigerians participating in global academic competitions.
