The principal of Community High School, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Folawe Alamu, has disclosed that the abductors killed two teachers during their 56-day captivity in a bid to pressure the government into meeting their demands.
Speaking during the official handover of the rescued pupils and teachers by the Nigerian Army to the Oyo State Government, Alamu recounted that the first victim, Mr. Michael, was executed on the second day after their abduction. She added that a second teacher, Deacon, was killed on the first Sunday of June while they remained in captivity.
According to the principal, the kidnappers openly admitted that the executions were intended to force the government to respond more quickly to their demands.
The victims were among the staff and pupils abducted during the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area before they were rescued in a coordinated operation involving the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
Alamu described the ordeal as traumatic, expressing gratitude to the security forces and the Oyo State Government for securing their freedom after nearly two months in captivity.
Her account has renewed concerns over the safety of schools in Nigeria and intensified calls for stronger security measures to protect students, teachers and other education stakeholders from future attacks.
