The Lagos State Education District IV has honoured its best-performing principals, teachers, students, schools, and non-teaching staff with a car, cash awards, and household items during its 2025 Merit Award and Honours Day.
The event, themed “Unlocking the 21st Century Educators,” was held on Tuesday in Lagos.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of the district, Mr. Segun Osinaike, said the initiative was aimed at motivating teachers, students, and stakeholders to maintain high standards in academics and character.
He explained that prizes included a car, refrigerators, freezers, cooking gas cylinders, home theatres, drums, standing fans, generators, plaques, and cash gifts.
> “This recognition is not just about today; it is a call to continuous service and higher dedication,” Osinaike said.

Additional Donations
Mr. Adebayo Adeyemo, a cleric with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), donated ₦2 million to outstanding teachers and students.
Mr. Rasheed Shabi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Mainland II, contributed ₦200,000 to top-performing students.
Shabi encouraged parents to embrace public schools, describing them as centres of quality education, while urging students to avoid social vices and remain focused.

Mr. Oluwaseun Ojo, winner of Best District Staff, said the honour was a morale booster for all staff.
Mrs. Jimoh Afusat, Best Non-Teaching Staff (Senior School), pledged to work harder.
Mrs. Adenike Oyefeso, Principal of Gbaja Girls Senior School and winner of Best Principal (Senior School), praised the Lagos State Government for institutionalising the awards, noting that it encourages healthy competition and sustains the state’s reputation for quality education.
