Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has inaugurated a new hostel facility in Eika Adagu, Okehi Local Government Area, built by the Dr Abdullahi Mustapha Foundation. Mustapha is the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria.
At the event, Governor Ododo said such initiatives would boost education, strengthen community development, and create economic opportunities. He encouraged well-meaning individuals and organizations to support government efforts by investing in people-centered projects.
Besides the hostel, the governor also opened the Kahal Hall in Inoziomi and the DAM Civic Centre at Ebegogo, both in Adavi Local Government Area.
Mustapha described the hostel as a safe, conducive accommodation for students and young people, adding that it could also house athletes. He said the DAM Civic Centre would serve as a hub for sports, cultural events, civic engagement, and community interactions, fostering unity and talent at the grassroots.
The foundation also organized an empowerment program for residents across Kogi Central. Beneficiaries received food items, laptops, writing materials, solar panels, sewing machines, and tools for artisans.
Start-up funds were provided to widows, while motorcycle riders and market women received support to improve their livelihoods.
Mustapha said the initiative is aimed at creating hope and long-term opportunities, especially for youths and small-scale entrepreneurs, by equipping them with tools, skills, and financial support.
The ceremony drew traditional rulers, political leaders, and senior government officials, highlighting the importance of collaboration between government and private philanthropy in driving sustainable development at the grassroots.
