Following the recent attack in Jos, the Benue State Government has begun evacuating its students from the University of Jos.
The move comes after the Palm Sunday violence in Angwan Rukuba, where about 28 people were reportedly killed, raising concerns about safety in the area.
In a statement issued by Kula Tersoo, over 600 students of Benue origin were evacuated on Thursday, with more buses deployed to bring back others willing to leave.
Governor Hyacinth Alia said the decision was taken to protect the lives and welfare of students amid the tension.
The situation had already disrupted academic activities at the University of Jos, with the institution postponing its first semester examinations and directing students to vacate hostels and surrounding areas.
The governor also disclosed that he is in talks with Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, as efforts continue to restore calm and bring those responsible to justice.
For many affected students, the evacuation marks an unexpected break from school, highlighting how insecurity can quickly interrupt academic plans.
