The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports alleging a kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the police said officers attached to the Nyanya Division received a distress call reporting an alleged ongoing abduction at the school, prompting an immediate deployment of operatives and surveillance teams to the scene.
According to the Command, preliminary findings revealed that panic broke out within the school premises after some students reportedly began shouting “kidnappers,” causing confusion and a rush of pupils and staff out of classrooms.
However, the police stated that after a thorough search and on-ground surveillance operation, no evidence of a kidnapping was found.
“No kidnapping incident was established, no suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified during the investigation,” the statement clarified.
The Command further urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information capable of triggering unnecessary panic within communities and schools.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and responding promptly to distress situations across the territory.
The police advised members of the public to always verify sensitive security-related information from official sources before sharing, warning that false alarms could disrupt public order and create avoidable tension.
