The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has successfully conducted the bid closing and opening exercise for seventy-five (75) education infrastructure projects across public primary and junior secondary schools in Lagos State, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and due diligence in public procurement.
The exercise, held at the LASUBEB Headquarters, Maryland, Lagos, was conducted through an electronic bid opening system designed to ensure efficiency, transparency and a seamless procurement process in line with established procurement regulations.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, stated that the adoption of the electronic bid opening system reflects the Board’s commitment to promoting integrity, fairness and openness in government operations.
According to him, the digital process eliminates procedural bottlenecks while providing a transparent and verifiable platform where all submissions are received, recorded and processed in real time.
“The electronic bid opening system guarantees a hitch-free and transparent process that promotes fairness among bidders and strengthens public confidence in government procurement activities,” he said.
Dr. Shittu further urged prospective contractors and service providers to ensure timely and quality delivery of projects, stressing that the Board remains committed to implementing impactful interventions that will enhance teaching and learning outcomes across schools in the State.
He noted that the 75 projects funded under the UBEC/LASUBEB Intervention Programme forms part of ongoing efforts by the Federal and Lagos State Governments to strengthen basic education infrastructure, improve learning environments and expand access to quality education for all learners.
Also speaking, the Representative of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Mr. Sunday Arema, assured stakeholders that all bids submitted would undergo comprehensive technical and financial evaluations in accordance with procurement laws and guidelines before the selection of successful contractors and suppliers.
He emphasized the need for adherence to approved standards during project execution, noting that every intervention project contributes directly to the delivery of quality basic education and the overall development of the education sector.
In his remarks, Mr. Akin Ogundare, Chief Procurement Officer from the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency (LSPPA), who supervised the bid opening session, affirmed that the exercise was conducted in full compliance with the Lagos State Public Procurement Law.
He described transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to due process as fundamental principles guiding the procurement exercise and commended LASUBEB for leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and credibility in public procurement.
