The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Gombe State University branch, has called for the immediate payment of outstanding entitlements owed to its members, warning of possible escalation if the state government fails to act.
The demand was contained in a communiqué issued after the union’s congress meeting held at the university’s English Lecture Theatre.
The statement, signed by the branch chairman, Dr Mustapha Shehu, and secretary, Dr Aliyu Shelleng, noted that the congress reviewed ongoing engagements with the government but expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome.
According to the union, efforts by its leadership to secure payment of the entitlements had so far been unsuccessful, prompting the call for urgent intervention.
ASUU listed the outstanding entitlements
to include components of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement, such as the new salary structure, enhanced postgraduate supervision allowance, teaching practice and industrial supervision allowances, as well as responsibility allowances.
Other demands include the arrears of the 25 and 35 per cent wage award, implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, arrears of the previous N30,000 minimum wage, and the backlog of Earned Academic Allowances covering 2021 to 2024.
The union warned that failure by the government to address these issues could lead to further action, noting that it may consider additional steps if the situation remains unresolved.
