WAEC has released the official instructions for the conduct of each subject in the examination centre, and every candidate should understand how their papers will be conducted.
Most WAEC subjects are divided into:
Paper 1 – Objective
Paper 2 – Essay/Theory
Paper 3 – Practical, Oral or Alternative to Practical depending on the subject.
Important things candidates should know:
1. Phones are not allowed as calculators in Mathematics and related subjects. Only calculators approved by WAEC can be used.
2. Science practicals such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Agriculture may be divided into different sets if the number of candidates is large. Candidates in different sets must not interact until all groups finish.
3. Practical instructions for subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Foods and Nutrition, Digital Technologies and others are usually sent to schools two weeks before the examination.
4. English Language, French and Arabic have Oral/Test of Oral papers in addition to Objective and Essay papers.
5. Literature-in-English consists of Objective, Prose, and Drama & Poetry papers.
6. Subjects like Economics, Government, CRS, Civic Education and History only have Objective and Essay papers.
7. Geography has three papers:
– Objective
– Human & Regional Geography
– Map Reading & Physical Geography
8. Music practicals involve Aural Tests using audio CDs and Performance Tests assessed by visiting examiners.
9. Candidates offering Technical Drawing and Visual Art are expected to come with their drawing materials and instruments.
10. WAEC also provided special arrangements for visually impaired candidates including audio-based examinations using computers and headsets.
Every candidate is advised to take the examination instructions seriously and prepare according to the requirements of each subject.
