Graduates of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have continued to express frustration over delays in their mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), with some accusing the institution of wasting time while they remain at home nearly two years after graduation.
The affected graduates alleged that persistent issues surrounding Senate list uploads and unrecognized JAMB registration numbers have stalled their mobilisation process, leaving many uncertain about their future.
Some of the graduates claimed that repeated visits and enquiries yielded little progress, adding that the prolonged delay had subjected them to emotional and financial hardship.
One of the affected graduates, identified as Lebi Anuoluwapo, alleged that several students encountered the message, “JAMB Registration Number Does Not Exist,” during NYSC registration despite completing their academic programmes.
According to him, some students who visited offices of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for verification were informed that the issue did not originate from JAMB’s database, raising concerns about possible errors in data processing.
The graduate also criticised what he described as poor communication from some administrative units of the institution, noting that many affected students had struggled to get clear information regarding their mobilisation status.
“We have stayed at home for close to two years while our mates from other institutions have moved on with NYSC and other opportunities,” he lamented.
However, the Dean of Students’ Affairs of the institution, Dr. Tope Abiola, said the polytechnic was actively collaborating with JAMB to resolve the challenges affecting some graduates.
According to him, the issue was largely linked to incorrect data supplied by some students during documentation, which resulted in unrecognized JAMB registration numbers during the mobilisation process.
The Dean maintained that several graduates of the institution had already been successfully mobilised and were currently serving or preparing to serve under the NYSC scheme.
He further disclosed that the Rector of the institution, Mr. Kehinde Alabi, alongside other administrative officers, is presently in Abuja engaging with JAMB officials to ensure that unresolved cases are addressed.
Speaking on whether the institution could guarantee mobilisation for all affected students, Dr. Abiola stated that such assurance could not be given because the fault, according to him, was not entirely from the institution.
He, however, insisted that measurable progress was being made and expressed optimism that the ongoing engagement with JAMB would produce positive results.
Despite the assurances from management, affected graduates have continued to call for urgent intervention and improved communication to prevent further delay in their mobilisation process.
